Born and raised on PEI, Olive grew up on a dairy farm in the community of Morell. In this environment, Olive's parents Herb and Margaret raised her and her 8 siblings, instilling the importance of working together, close ties within one's community, and what any farmer's child could expect - a strong work ethic.
Olive's education began in a one room school house and eventually, with much determination, came to fruition in the form of a Social Work Degree from Dalhousie University in 1991.
Following university, Olive became a career civil servant in the provincial government, working in a variety of departments such as the Office of the Attorney General to Agriculture, as well as in Fisheries and Aquaculture.
Olive then went on to become an Employment Officer in the Department of Social Services, later working her way up to Supervisor, Manager and eventually Director of the department.
Olive joined the Progressive Conservative Party of PEI in 2006. At that time she represented District 2 and the communities of Morell and Fortune, and went on to win the bi-election that year. The following year Olive was re-elected and then represented the communities of Morell and Mermaid in District 7.
In 2010, Olive was elected the official leader of the PEI PC Party. Currently, she is also the House Leader as well as the Opposition Critic for Health, Education, the Status of Women, and Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour.
Olive attributes an important part of her political success is a result of the hard work, dedication and support of the members of her PC team. It is her desire, as a political leader, to promote an Island government that puts service back into the public service, and is financially responsible; respecting the importance of spending government dollars effectively, as one would if they were spending from their own pocket.
Along with her occupational, political and family obligations, she owns and operates a wild blueberry farm in Douglas Station with her husband Paul Affleck, to whom she has been married for the past 27 years. Together they have 3 adult children; Lindy, Drew and Lydia who have grown up helping on the family farm, much like Olive herself had done in her childhood.
Despite her busy work schedule at the office and at home, Olive's dedication to her community has never waned. She has served her community as a board member on the National Council of Welfare and the Canadian Association of Education, as well as in a variety of capacities with the Morell and Area Soccer Club.
It is Olive's belief that in order to be a leader in this province, one must be able to relate to what true Islanders go through; understanding their pride, their determination, and their commitment to family and community. That is why Olive Crane, leader of the PEI PC Party, is ready to Take a Stand for every Islander.
